Why Five Guys is fRickun Cool

Once or twice a year, I allow myself to indulge in a delicious cheeseburger and fries at Five Guys. I’ve always loved Five Guys, but I try to eat healthy. On a recent “cheat day,” I saw something totally new to me: a touchscreen Coca-Cola soda machine that mixes an almost infinite number of flavors. I rarely drink soda, but I was so excited to try this thing out that I gave in to a Diet Cherry Vanilla Coke.

I watched other customers as they used the machine as well. Their excitement level was at a ten. Kids were begging their parents to come back again tomorrow. I have a feeling this will bring in new customers and will also keep others coming back more often.

It’s a great example of a company using new technology and fun to engage customers and build loyalty. Yes, the novelty will eventually wear off. But there’s a ton of money to be made in the meantime.

Nice Post Noah. Moe’s Diner in Charlotte has these machine for about a year now and they were quite the rage at Moe’s for a while and still are quite a cool novelty. I don’t drink soda except for special exceptions. One of those exceptions is when I visit Moe’s. That said, perhaps this “self-service experience” is more of win for Coke than Moe’s or Five Guys. Your thoughts?

Nice Post Noah. Moe’s Diner in Charlotte has had these machine for about a year now and they were quite the rage at Moe’s for a while and still are quite a cool novelty. For example, I don’t drink soda except for special exceptions. One of those exceptions when I’m at Moe’s and find the tempting lure of that big red machine too irresistible to ignore. The concept speaks beyond the need to quench my thirst to an innate desire to create – in this case my own customized soda. That said, in terms of how this machine impacts me, this big winner of this “self-service experience” is Coke because I’ll never go to Moe’s for a fountain drink. But once I’m there, this unique, well-designed, big, red fountain is in my line of sight and it’s been built to be a what it is – a bionic, smoothly-laid-seduction machine.

But once I’m there, this unique, well-designed, big, red Coke fountain is in my line of sight and I, for one, believe it’s been built  from the start to be a bionic, smoothly-laid-seduction machine that’s hard to turn down and impossible to ignore. Kudos to the Coca-Cola brand for helping me to temporarily lay aside my health concerns so I can enjoy an occasional soda and have positive feedback for its brand.
